From Earth To Engagement Rings
Diamonds are thought to have been born at the origins of time and man first discovered diamonds 4,000 years ago in the Indian region of Golconda. Since that time diamonds have fascinated mankind and captured the hearts and minds of the most powerful and famous figures in history, they symbolise power, beauty and inspiration. Rings have, for centuries, been associated with myths and magic; from man's earliest rituals and through art and in literature - they seduce, captivate and stir our hearts. It is fitting then, that when this most precious of gems finds a setting at the heart of earth's most precious metals, such as gold or platinum - a ring is created which forms part of our most treasured and traditional custom, these are engagement rings. Throughout this time, diamonds rings have commonly been presented as gifts for engagements, weddings, anniversaries and even the birth of a child.
However, it is engagement rings which hypnotise us most. But why is this so? Maybe because of the long journey each gem has taken from the earth to a jeweller, whether we buy engagement rings online or are influenced by the beautifully hard stone against our skin in a local store, each one has made an epic and unique journey to the surface of the earth. Diamonds were formed billions of years ago, deep within the earth. Only a small number will reach the earth's surface and fewer still are of the high quality we desire to be crafted into an original and precious piece of jewellery. Diamonds are truly one of nature's most breathtaking gifts, they are beautiful, they are mysterious and they are rare. Stones that are of gem quality are assessed with a loving eye and classified, then re-classified by their cut, colour, clarity and carat.
Of these, surely a diamond's true beauty is found in its cut, as this is the only factor which has been affected by the human hand; it is the process which finds a harmony between craft and nature. Despite the importance of classification, beauty is the only authority on diamonds and engagement rings. They should be a source of fire, life and brilliance. Fire is the colour that glistens as light radiates through the stone. Life is the shine which reflects in our eyes and sparkles in our hearts when we turn the stone between our fingers and brilliance is the intense glow of white light, when the diamond is still. Crafting loose diamonds into jewellery requires great technical skill and creativity. Designers and manufacturers will be pleased to craft any style according to personal taste, from traditional to contemporary or even custom-made. The most classical setting is the solitaire which is found in a plethora pieces including rings, earrings pendants and even some bespoke design pendants.
